Chili Feed Set for February 26th
Another highly anticipated event, the Chili Feed, has been scheduled for February 26th at 4:30 PM.
The Chili Feed is typically one of the best attended extracurricular activities of the calendar year at MCC. That may be because everyone loves chili and corn bread. Or maybe because they love making chili and corn bread and entering it into the contests. Or maybe because it’s a chance to dress up in Western wear. Or maybe because of the great music and entertainment scheduled for the event.
No matter what your reason for looking forward to the Chili Feed, write the date on your calendar so you don’t miss it.
If you want to participate with special music or in some other way, contact Janelle or Natalie Hageman.
Valentines’s Day Dessert
This delightful annual event will be held February 17th at 7:00 PM. The theme for this year’s Valentines Party is “With a Cherry on Top.” Hosted by John and Kitty Miller, this year’s celebration will feature a make-your-own ice cream sundae bar (with all the fixin’s), games, special music, and a guest speaker you won’t want to miss!
Cost is $2.50 per person. See John or Kitty Miller for tickets.
Group Camp Sites Procured for Family Camp
Alder Lake will once again be the site of Family Camp this summer. The date is August 8-11. The difference for 2012 is that we have reserved five sites at the group camp rather than reserving individual sites throughout the campground.
Each of these sites can be used for either your tent or RV of any size. All sites have electricity, water and sewer. Our five sites come with a small covered kitchen area for just us. They are near a playground, horse shoes, fire pit and rest room/shower facilities.
Three of these sites are already spoken for. Another is tentatively taken, so that leaves only one more site available for our group. If you are interested in participating in family camp, please see Connie Hageman as soon as possible. If we have more than one family interested we can make arrangements, but time is of the essence.
The cost is $31 per night. If you bring an extra vehicle it will be an additional $10 per night, which is pretty standard for camping policies. Plan your summer fun now by reserving your place at family camp today!
Baby Shower For Rachel McCready & Baby Girl
One of the fun events we look forward to when a new baby is on the way to a MCC mom is planning and giving a baby shower. Monica Stephenson is heading up plans for this shower, slated for February 21st at 7 PM.
All ladies are invited to attend this festive event. If you would like to help, contact Monica. Save the evening of Feb. 21st for this celebration to help Rachel and Shawn look forward with readiness to the birth of their firstborn baby.
Jonathan Michael to Preach on Feb. 5th
Due to a break in his schedule while in our state, we will be blessed to have Jonathan Michael here with us at 10:30 AM on Sunday morning, Feb. 5th.
Though we have not been able to see him much recently, MCC has a long standing with Jonathan and his family. They are originally from Bangalore, India, currently residing in British Columbia. It is difficult for the family to travel to the states due to passport/visa issues, so most often we see Jonathan alone.
You will enjoy hearing what Jonathan has to share with us and you are sure to be challenged by the message he has.
LIVEWIRES EVENT PLANNED
Dip in to The Dippity Donuts and Espresso Shop at 10:30 AM on Sat. Feb. 11, 2012, for a get together treat! See sign up sheet.
Easter Cantata Chosen
Christmas is behind us and Easter is looming large for your MCC choir and orchestra members. Friday and Saturday evening night rehearsals have begun in preparation for this annual event.
The Cantata, “Never Thirst Again” looks at the “life-changing story of Jesus’ death and resurrection is told from the unique perspective of the Samaritan woman at the well as she is transformed by the sacrificial love of Christ. Two actresses portray the woman called Anna, an older woman who looks back at the Passion events from a post-resurrection perspective, and her younger counterpart who encounters Jesus at the well and joins His followers in Jerusalem during Passion Week” (Editors Review, JW Pepper).
Dates for the Easter Cantata are April 1st at 10:30 AM and April 6th at 7 PM. This follows our tradition of performing on Palm Sunday and Good Friday.
Ethiopia Team Returns Feb. 2nd
It was obvious from the beginning that God had a plan in three of our men going to Ethiopia.
When the plan was mentioned, reluctance could be used to describe at least one of the participants thoughts. But God intervened.
Then it seemed the trip was going to be postponed due to lack of clarity in the task. Our men are not skilled in building a 2-story cement block building. But then, God intervened, giving clarity to the project.
Due to delay in deciding the timing of the trip, funds had to be raised in a short amount of time - during the already financially taxing time of Christmas. But again, God intervened, and the money was raised.
As the trip was made to get to the airport, the team got across the Narrows Bridge mere seconds before a 6 hour closure due to falling ice chunks. Coincidence? Luck? No. God intervened!
Look forward to a presentation from the team soon after their return. Watch the bulletin for details. Thank you for your financial support, but more importantly, thank you for your prayer. Because in this trip God’s intervention was evident from the beginning.
Spragues are the February Missionaries of the Month
Roy Sprague is listed at N.I.C.E as a “Minister at Large.” That must mean that they have a large ministry. When you consider the ways they are willing to come to your church and assist, you will think so too.
They are listed as available for evangelistic ministries, Bible conferences, marriage and family conferences, missions conference, children’s ministry and counsel and consultation, providing Biblical guidance and help in times of church and ministry need. No wonder these are busy folks.
Please pray for Roy and Elvia as they undertake whatever the Lord brings their way. As you can see, they are open and available for almost anything. They are sure to need strength, good health, safe travels, wisdom and encouragement as they follow the Lord in ministry.
February Outreach
Outreach is offered as a way to encourage MCC attenders to stay around and visit awhile instead of rushing home. Providing a small snack and a refreshing drink allows people to linger a bit before leaving. The following people have Outreach duty this month.
2-5 Blossey
2-12 Campbell
2-19 Cavnar, Sr.
2-26 Cavnar, Jr.
If you have questions, contact Carol Eddy. If you switch weeks, please contact Connie Hageman at the church office so the correct information can get in the bulletin.
I AM MY NEIGHBOR’S BIBLE
I am my neighbor’s Bible
He reads me when we meet;
Today he reads me in my home,
Tomorrow in the street.
He may be relative or friend,
Or slight acquaintance be;
He may not even know my name,
Yet--he is reading me.
Dear Christian friends and brothers,
If we could only know
How faithfully the world records
Just what we say and do.
Oh, we would make our records plain
And labor hard to see
Our worldly neighbors won to Christ,
While reading you and me.
Quit Supposin’
Don’t start your day by supposin’
That trouble is just ahead.
It’s better to stop supposin’
And start with a prayer instead.
And make it a prayer of thanksgiving
For the wonderful things God has wrought,
Like the beautiful sunrise and sunset,
God’s gifts that are free and not bought.
For what is the use of supposin’
The dire things that could happen to you
And worry about some misfortune
That seldom if ever comes true?
But instead of just idle supposin’
Step forward to meet each new day
Secure in the knowledge God’s near you
To lead you each step of the way.
For supposin’ the worst things will happen
Only helps to make them come true,
And you darken the bright happy moments
That the dear Lord has given you.
So if you desire to be happy
And get rid of the misery of dread
Just give up supposin’ the worst things
And look for the best things instead.
