Church History
It was on in 1907 the first Sunday School was organized in a log house on top of Manchester Hill. On December 5, 1914, people from the surrounding area got together to form a church. A week later the new congregation laid out a constitution, the name of the church was yet to be decided upon.
These names were among some of the interm titles which were suggested.
- Community Church of West Puget Sound
- Church of Kitsap County
- First Community Church of Three Points
It wasn't till 1920 that the congregation made their final decision on naming their place of worship Manchester Community Church.
The first pastor preached in Waterman, Manchester and Long Lake until the white building (see photo above) was erected. There was a trail leading to our little church back then, - now it's called Alaska Street.
Ninty-three years later and many pastors later, gives memory to many special occasions including: romances and marriages between attenders, the purchase of the first organ, the starting of Manchester Christian Academy, births and deaths of many loved ones, building new structures and finally the new church building in 1979.
One of the most significant events was the sending out of Manchester's first Missionary, Rosemary Hill in 1952. She was saved at a youth rally at Manchester in 1944. She spent 20 years among the Chinese in Malaysia.
In part of a quote by Mrs. Howard A. (Anna) White, she summed up our history in this way: "It has remained fundamental, nondenominational and has endeavored to be true to apostolic doctrine and practice.
